YGTK’s First Pre-Matriculation Leaders Step Forward

Last week, we gathered for a heartfelt dinner honoring the first class of our pre-matriculation program with Quinnipiac University, full of students who are now graduating from the medical school—an evening that marked not only the end of a significant chapter, but the beginning of a promising journey in medicine and leadership.

As first-year medical students, this extraordinary group embarked on a unique path by participating in a pre-matriculation program rooted in leadership development, guided by Chuck Saia’s book You Got This, Kid! Words of Advice for Young Leaders. From the start, they weren’t just studying medicine—they were building the mindset and skills to become compassionate, resilient, and visionary leaders in healthcare.

This dinner was a celebration of everything they’ve accomplished. The students, now newly matched and preparing to enter the next stage of their medical careers, were recognized for their dedication, growth, and commitment to not only their own futures but to the mission of uplifting others along the way.

Chuck Saia, author, leader, and longtime advocate for mentoring young professionals, shared moving reflections during the event. He spoke of the deep connection he feels with this inaugural class—how watching them grow over the years has been both inspiring and humbling. He expressed his hope that they will carry forward the spirit of You Got This, Kid! by mentoring future generations and continuing to lead with heart and purpose.

To commemorate their unique role in the program’s legacy, each student was presented with a special cord and pin to wear at graduation—symbols of their connection to the foundation and to the values that have shaped their journey.

This evening was more than just a celebration—it was a call to action. As these young doctors step into the world, we’re reminded that leadership isn’t about titles or recognition. It’s about lifting others, forging paths where none exist, and using every opportunity to make our world better.

To the graduates: we are so proud of you. Stay connected, stay grounded, and always remember—you got this.
